Will Lionel and CEO Jerry Calabrese follow through with their promise in delivering 2 steam and 2 diesel Vision Line engines in this year’s 2010 Signature Catalog? And what are the two Vision Line steam and diesel engines?
For steam, the one engine that keeps coming up as a popular and immensely profitable model is the UP Challenger. Even though the Challenger may not be as obscure as the 2-10-10-2 or CC2,it’s release is completely overdue (almost 10 years). For one thing,it has not been released with Legacy technology. The second thing is that Lionel enjoyed a huge sell out with the Big Boy in Legacy re-release. A Vision Line Challenger is guaranteed sales success Lionel. And if they offered this engine in multiple road numbers,I will be the first to order all of them! Would it be a surprised to you if I told you I ordered all 4 road numbers for the Legacy Big Boys?
As for the second steamer,I cannot even guess as to what it could be. I don’t think it will be the 700E Hudson that although shadowy, clearly graces the front cover of the 2010 catalog. I think the 700E will be a Conventional Classics (CC) model. This again is purely speculation on my part and I might eat my words because the detailing based on the dark pictures is pretty impressive for a CC engine. On the Vision diesel side my wish list would be a UP DD40AX or a high speed bullet train? Again, those are my speculations. The anticipation is high like betting on the winning team the day before the Super Bowl. I hope Lionel continues to break new ground with this catalog as well as give us a good excuse to spend our hard earned money especially in terrible economic times like this. Less than 1 day away from the 2010 catalog!!!
